David Myers

Professor Myers is interested in social psychology, psychology and religion, and personal and societal well-being. His scientific articles have appeared in more than two dozen journals, including Science, Psychological Bulletin, Psychological Science, and the American Psychologist. His work on group polarization has been honored with the Gordon Allport Prize from Division 9 of the American Psychological Association. Professor Myers is author of several leading psychology textbooks, and he has served as consulting editor to the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and to the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology.

He is the author of six trade books, The Pursuit of Happiness (Avon), The American Paradox: Spiritual Hunger in an Age of Plenty (Yale, 2000), and A Quiet World: Hearing Loss and How to Live with It (Yale, 2000), Intuition: Its Powers and Perils (Yale, 2002), What God has Joined Together: A Christian Case for Gay Marriage (HarperSanFrancisco, 2005), and A Friendly Letter to Skeptics and Atheists (Jossey-Bass, 2008). He has also authored five books dealing with psychological research and religious beliefs, and articles in more than three dozen magazines, from Christian Century to Scientific American.

In addition to his activities in psychology, Professor Myers has chaired his city's Human Relations Commission, helped found a Community Action Center that assists poverty-level families, become an advocate for people with hearing loss, and supported his wife Carol in her web-based efforts to increase understanding of Saint Nicholas. Most noontimes he can be found playing the point in a pick-up basketball game.
